Democrat’s State of the Union January 23, 2007

Very powerful response to Bush by Jim Webb, the new senator of Virginia (he beat macaca-man).

Here is the link.

Two major messages:

1. The economy may be doing well for the wealthy, but not so well for the middle class and the elected officials need to do something about it.

2. We need to get out of Iraq and engage in more resolute diplomacy.

Interestingly, he quoted two republican presidents who had dealt effectively with similar situations in the past. Teddy Roosevelt with the robber barons and Eisenhower with Korea.

I refused to watch when I head what Bush was going to talk about. Why the hell didn’t he address those subjects 6 years ago? Plus, his ideas for “fixing” the environmental woes and health care crisis are ridiculous.

I’m not sure he has any ideas for fixing the environment. I suppose it’s a little victory that he actually acknowledged that there is such a thing as global warming.

His health care ideas are a little weird. It makes sense to equalize the self-employed by allowing them to deduct their individual health care, but he claims you pay for this by taxing “gold-plated” insurance. What is gold-plated? The real problem is that we have exhorbitant administrative costs with the current system and a lot of people aren’t covered, either because of pre-existing conditions or they simply don’t have enough income.

Bozo has as much credibility as the oxymoron network…..ZERO

I thought that Webb’s response was great. They had the right man this year, unlike last year.
